As I sit here typing this, in perhaps the most uncomfortable position known to mankind (thank quarantine for me learning how to work in my pajamas in the most acrobatic ways) I can smell a crisp, woodsy bergamot scent.
I can’t think of a time when my apartment didn’t have some sort of scent looming in the air – whether it be a candle burning or my diffuser doing its thing.
And with the season of giving upon us (although that season is every day if your love language is gift-giving,) I wanted to compile a list of my favorite candle brands (and scents).
Candles make the perfect gift – even if it’s simply a gift to yourself!
Heretic
From the packaging to the burning, I love everything about a Heretic candle. And as if the endless array of calming scents weren’t enough, did you know they are clean, vegan, and cruelty-free?
But wait – that’s not the end of perks! When you purchase a Heretic candle, you are purchasing a candle that is:
- Non-toxic,
- Compounded amongst a pure soy wax base
- Lead-free
- Hand-poured in the USA
- Free of phthalates, parabens, synthetic dyes, and formaldehyde

Because I like to unwind when I come home, I love the Dirty Grass which has the most earthy, romantic, and calming scent. Oh, and it has hemp-derived CBD…so it was basically made for chill days.
My second fave from Heretic would be their collab with GOOP queen GP. This Smells Like My Prenup is my favorite of their trio.
Boy Smells
As a marketer, I can appreciate their branding and packaging. I love when brands put thought into what they’re sending out. It doesn’t have to be extravagant. Less really is more. And Boy Smells can make magic out of air. When I purchase a Boy Smells candle, I know I’m supporting a dream. I love their origin story, and I love that their wax blends are paraffin and phthalate-free!
In terms of scents, I burn the most these are my Top 3
- Cowboy Kush
- Slow Burn
- Smell Ting (which comes with one month of Sky Ting!)

If you’re new here, you know I love shopping small. I believe there is nothing better than supporting someone’s dream and discovering something handpicked that you might not have otherwise known about. RBTL has the best of everything: home decor, accessories, candles, books…you name it! In fact my gallery wall is slowly but surely coming together. I always leave their shop feeling loved and inspired, and when those are the vibes, why wouldn’t you shop there?
But since we are here to chat candles today, let’s get into why theirs are my fave:
- Each RBTL candle is hand-poured with love in Texas
- They’re composed of all-natural soy and coconut wax
- 100% vegan perfume oils
- Phthalate-free & Paraffin-free
- 45-hour approx. burn time with no dents in the center
- Reusable, food-safe glass vessel
- Eco-friendly packaging from 30% recycled content
I have yet to burn a candle of theirs that I didn’t like if we are being honest. I never was a candle enthusiast until I stumbled into their shop one evening. Now I’m addicted. My absolute favorite candle of theirs to burn is Cashmere All Year which is the perfect blend of sensual and sweet without being too loud.
If you’re looking for a plethora of candles in addition to RBTL’s brand, they also carry Boy Smells, Slow North, P.F. Candle Co, and a couple others! If you’re in the Dallas Fort Worth area, I highly recommend popping by their store front. And if you’re not local, that’s okay, they’re online, and heck…I even like to order things from them simply because they pack each order with such love and care.

And to round out my list, we end with P.F. Candle Co!
If you’re new to candles, start with Teakwood & Tobacco. This was my first luxe candle purchase on my own and I still love their candles to this day. For $28 you can get the larger size which burns slowly and evenly. Enjoy the leather, teak, and orange aroma as you light this and crack open your favorite book.
So there you have it – my favorite candles to give – or get! And I do take note of the prices points on several of them. To that I want to point out, you can’t put a price on clean. We are exposed to so many chemicals and toxins every day, so why add any more if we don’t have to? Endocrine disruption is real.
