This week I have podcaster and film guru Andy of Fat Dude Digs Flicks on to talk life, movies and living authentically. For all of the scoop of our chat – check out the pod when it launches later this week. Until then…enjoy some tidbits I unearthed when getting to know this rad dude.
Andy has always been keen on films, finding significant joy in not only watching them – but discussing them.
I have come to find recently that my best adult friendships are finding their footing because of that shared love for movies. I took classes about movies, but for me, the greatest education on movies has come from watching them. Anything and everything. What I do now combines my love for performing with my love for movies and I couldn’t be happier!
Andy, Fat Dude Digs Flicks
Similar to myself, Andy moved around quite a bit growing up. His origin story begins in Omaha, moving all the way to Kansas City, and even Dallas. These days, however, you can find him in Sioux Falls where he has lived for the last 14 years.
Always drawn to performing, Andy dipped his toes into the arts as a child doing plays. He even wanted to be a DJ at one point in time…which honestly, I think I did too. But then I realized my musical talents were limited to only knowing how to play the piano. Always the scholar, Andy combined his passion for film, and love of learning when he completed his BFA in Theatre-Acting in 2008. Now he hosts a popular podcast.
Quite the modest individual, he offers a simple slice of inspiration: “Aim for your dreams and they’ll often come true in unexpected ways.”
Now let’s do 3 fast facts straight from the man himself:
- I’m not really knowledgeable about what’s popular as far as modern music is concerned, but I am intensely passionate about my favorite band of all time, Queen. I have thoughts and opinions about what they are doing now, but the era with Freddie Mercury at the lead — music doesn’t get much better or more innovative than that.
- My girlfriend and I are pretty content spending most of our time at home with our three cats: Yuki, KiKi, and Hiro. Our dog, Miko, recently passed and that has been hard to reckon with, but having these three cats around has been just what we needed.
- My grown-up job is working as a day case manager for adults with developmental disabilities. I took a job working in direct care in 2009 and worked there for ten years. I decided I needed a change, so bounced around doing different things for a couple of years (and the onset of a pandemic), and found my way back to this. That direct care job changed my life.
