Talking to the OG #GirlBoss

Today I sat down with Abbey, the original Girl Boss. We first met back when I was an undergrad student at Midwestern State University, and hosted my first philanthropic event (Barks & Brews) at Lone Star Tequila Bar. We bonded over working hard, trying all of the things in life, and of course: rescue pups.

Abbey is a married mom of two, residing in Henrietta, TX. She is a small business owner with a fun passion and side hustle of photography. She loves music, dogs, and like any Texan, the river. When asked for her elevator pitch on herself, she laughs and says, “This feels like a dating profile or something.”

We remained friends over the years, and today spoke about passions, dreams, growing up, and what it’s like to be a business owner.

As a business owner who always has her pulse on expansion and creativity, I asked Abbey if this was always her dream. She explained that her dad had been in the bar business for 40+ years. Basically, it was in her blood. But her favorite part of this journey? She says “I’ve been fortunate to work with my folks for the last several years. It’s been fun and challenging.”

When asked what advice she had for people chasing their dreams, Abbey had one simple yet powerful slice of advice:

Your dreams are worthy of your time and dedication.

Although she doesn’t drink often, one of her favorite cocktails is a fun one:

Her Secret Recipe

  • 1 oz. Flavored Vodka (she prefers Peach)
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Ginger beer to taste.

Now if you’re not a North Texas native, you might not know this, but Abbey is behind some of your favorite places:

Lone Star Tequila Bar

I did my very first non-profit event here, so Lone Star will always hold a special place in my heart! But this is the place to go if you’re wanting to dance, or hang out with friends and enjoy an aged tequila. Because let’s face it: not everyone can dance, haha!

West End Pool Hall

Remember the bar in Cheers? This is like that. Everyone is family and in addition to ice-cold beer, you can play a mean game of pool with your friends.

Copper Stills Photography

If you’re a fan of natural light and photos that are truly timeless, you’re in luck. Abbey has a natural talent for capturing life’s special moments, no matter how small.
