Sustainability is a term that’s been thrown around a lot lately, and it’s for good reason. Our planet is kinda in peril, and it’s up to us to do something about it. The good news is, being sustainable is easier than you may think. It’s all about balance and finding small, consistent ways to make a difference that, in turn, make a big difference.
I’ve been down a virtual black hole consisting of all the things wrong with the planet, as well as all of the things we can do to heal it. And while it’s intense at times, and scary to think about…I want you to read this and not feel overwhelmed. Because the truth is, as I began my journey into being more green, I was sweating. Seriously. I was like petrified that everything I did was wrong. And then even the healthy choices I thought I was making, were deemed “toxic” by alleged internet experts.
So naturally I felt smothered and said “screw it,” and opened a pack of Twizzlers.
Yup, Twizzlers. And my word, they were tasty! Red dye and all.
But the thing is: Sustainability, or any kind of life change is not all-or-nothing.
It’s not about living a life of deprivation or sacrifice.
And that’s something I’ve really had to remind myself of this year as I make more conscious choices.
The easiest way to start is by reducing your waste by using reusable bags and water bottles — things you might already be doing without realizing.
It also helps to shop small. And if you can’t shop local or shop small, try to purchase things like your clothes with a plan. Purchase items that you know will get worn and reused. A reason I’m not the biggest fan of fast fashion is because so many fast fashion brands have unethical practices and clothes that quite literally fall apart after one wash.
And bestie…if you’re thinking you’re just one person and can’t make a difference, just multiply that by at least a billion. Because if we all collectively made small changes on a daily basis…things would turn around for the better.
