When God Makes You Uncomfortable, Listen

Lately, I’ve found myself complaining more than I’d like. Yet while I’m all for healthy venting and believe that there’s no point in complaining without action, I’ve started to realize that repeated complaints are often a sign that something in my life probably shouldn’t be there. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but here’s the truth that will piss you off before it sets you free: God will make you deeply uncomfortable in places you’re not meant to stay.

And He won’t whisper. He’ll scream through your anxiety, your burnout, your restlessness, and that gut feeling you keep ignoring.

That Relationship? It’s Expired.

You know it. God knows it. But you’re still romanticizing potential, clinging to what it could be instead of accepting what it is. The love feels lopsided. The growth is one-sided. You’ve outgrown it, but you keep shrinking yourself to make it work. And what happens? You feel empty, unappreciated, and completely out of alignment.

That’s not love. That’s fear masquerading as loyalty.

That Job? It’s Not Serving Your Purpose.

You dread Mondays. Hell, you dread Tuesdays through Fridays too. But the paycheck is decent, and your coworkers aren’t all that bad. So you stay. Meanwhile, your creativity is suffocating, your peace is fleeting, and your potential is wasting away in a redundant Slack thread.

Let’s not lie to ourselves: God didn’t create you to be comfortable. He created you to be impactful. And when you start living beneath your purpose, He’ll make sure you feel it—deeply.

When Discomfort Is Divine

Here’s the plot twist nobody talks about: that sick feeling in your stomach? That constant tension? That loss of peace? It’s not always anxiety—it’s alignment slipping.

Sometimes, God disturbs your comfort to protect your calling. He’ll let the cracks show. He’ll let the mask slip. He’ll even let things fall apart—not to hurt you, but to wake you up.

Discomfort is often divine direction in disguise.

How to Live a Purpose-Driven Life: 7 Tips for Embracing Discomfort and Growth

When God pushes you out of your comfort zone, it’s easy to resist. But growth happens when we step into the uncomfortable, and living a purpose-driven life often requires embracing the very discomfort we try to avoid. Here are my 7 tips to help you lean into the discomfort, align with your purpose, and keep moving forward in your growth journey:

  1. Get Honest About Where You Are
You can’t move forward if you’re lying to yourself about where you are. Take a good look at your job, relationships, and environment. Is it draining you? Is it helping you grow? The first step toward living a purpose-driven life is getting honest with yourself about what’s no longer serving you.
  2. Embrace Discomfort as a Sign of Growth
If you’re feeling uncomfortable, it’s not a sign that you’re failing—it’s a sign that something is shifting. Discomfort is often the beginning of a transformation that will move you closer to your purpose. Instead of avoiding it, lean into it.
  3. Take Bold Steps, Even When You’re Scared
God isn’t asking you to take safe, easy steps. Growth requires risk. If you feel the pull to make a change—whether it’s leaving a job or stepping away from a toxic relationship—do it. Taking bold action will lead you closer to your purpose, even if it’s terrifying.
  4. Create Boundaries That Honor Your Purpose
Say no to what drains you and yes to what fuels your growth. Setting boundaries with people, environments, and projects that don’t align with your purpose allows space for you to focus on what really matters.
  5. Trust the Process, Even When It Feels Chaotic
Life rarely unfolds in a straight line. Trust that each uncomfortable situation, each period of transition, is part of the divine process guiding you toward your purpose. It might feel messy, but it’s all part of the bigger picture.
  6. Surround Yourself with People Who Challenge You
The right people will make you uncomfortable in the best way. Find those who push you to become better, hold you accountable, and remind you of your true purpose when you lose sight of it.
  7. Stay Committed to the Long Game
Purpose isn’t found in instant gratification. It’s a long-term commitment. Focus on the journey, not just the destination, and know that every uncomfortable step is part of the growth that will lead you to where you’re meant to be.

Embracing Discomfort as Part of Your Growth Journey

Living a purpose-driven life isn’t about staying in the comfort zone. It’s about recognizing when discomfort is guiding you toward your true calling. Every challenge, every uneasy moment, and every period of change is an opportunity to grow and align with your purpose. Lean into that discomfort, trust the process, and know that it will always be worth it as you continue your growth journey.

Stop Praying for Peace in Places God Is Trying to Pull You From

We love to pray, “God, give me peace in this situation,” but what if God is saying, “No—I’m giving you discomfort so you finally leave”?

It’s not punishment. It’s preparation.

Sometimes the blessing isn’t in sticking it out—it’s in walking away. With shaky hands. With no plan. With just enough faith to take the next step.

And trust me, when you do? The peace you’ve been begging for will meet you on the other side of obedience.

I’ve been there—and to be honest, I’m still walking through it in some ways. Anytime I’ve tried to fight that pull, I’ve been miserable. But I’ve learned that growth doesn’t happen in comfort—it happens in movement, in new environments, and in the moments where your faith outweighs your fear.

It’s scary as hell, but it’s always worth it.
