One of the best parts of growing up is shedding your old skin. Yeah, I know—that sounds like something from a self-help Pinterest board. But hear me out.
Snakes shed their skin and start fresh. Humans? We do the same thing. We leave behind the parts of ourselves that no longer serve us, and it’s messy, awkward, sometimes painful. But it’s how we grow.
I’m weeks away from turning 32. And yeah, aging can be scary. But it’s also exciting.
I look back at who I was ten years ago and it’s wild how much has changed. Am I perfect? Nope. Am I the most practical adult? Absolutely not. But do I make better choices that help me grow as a woman and as a human being? Absolutely.
Learning to Balance Ambition With Life
When I was younger, it was all grades, resumes, and chasing the “dream” on paper. I wanted the city life, the ideal job, the accolades. And sure, I got some of it.
But here’s the thing: I’m unlearning the idea that my worth is measured by what I achieve or how hard I grind. Working yourself into the ground doesn’t make you a hero. There’s no medal for early burnout.
Yes, I still work hard. But I also savor life. Because no one cares about your A+ in British Lit after the semester ends. What matters is creating a life you’re proud to live.
Control What You Can, Let Go of the Rest
This year had its challenges, like all years do. And here’s the truth: you can only control what you can control. Period.
Focus on that. Let go of the rest. Live more. Do what makes you happy. Stop trying to be liked by everyone. Stop begging people to stay in your life. The right ones will stick around. The rest? Let them go.
Happiness is Simple
It took me a while to unlearn the old equation: happiness = stuff, status, constant movement. Now? It’s simpler.
Happiness is feeling the fresh autumn breeze on your cheek while sitting on a pier in Seattle.
Happiness is feeling safe, seen, and loved by the people who matter.
Happiness is being okay with all of you, even the messy, stubborn, beautiful parts.
Happiness is knowing you don’t have to go out every night to feel alive.
Happiness is growth. And growth is life.
That’s the best part. The part that keeps getting better.
