New Year, New Goals — But Do You Have a Plan?

If you’ve been following me on any platform, by now you know I can’t stand resolutions. I think they set folks up for disappointment ; and are just a chance for marketing teams to show what they’re made of – and that’s coming from a marketing girlie.

But I’ll never give you a problem without giving you a solution. So let’s dive in and discover how to set small, tangible goals, build little habits, and make big changes without overwhelming ourselves. Remember, patience and self-compassion are key. So, let’s jump right into it!

  1. Set Small, REALISTIC Goals:
Instead of aiming for massive, monumental changes that seem daunting AF, zero in on small, achievable goals. These goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, and realistic. Break down your large aspirations into smaller, actionable steps, making them more manageable and boosting your chances of success. For instance, rather than saying, “I’ll become fluent in a new language,” start with, “I’ll spend 10 minutes every day practicing vocabulary on Duolingo.”
  2. Little Habits Make Big Change:
Have you ever heard the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”? Well, that applies to your resolutions too! Focus on cultivating little habits that align with your goals. Consistency is the key here. Start small, and then gradually increase the difficulty or duration of your habit. Whether it’s reading a few pages every night, going for a quick jog each morning, or meditating for five minutes before starting your day, these small habits will accumulate over time, leading to profound transformation. Remember, it’s all about progress, not perfection!
  3. Patience and Grace:
Above all, be patient with yourself and give yourself grace. Progress doesn’t always come as quickly as we want it to, and that’s okay. Embrace the notion that change is a journey rather than the flick of a switch. Celebrate each small victory along the way, and don’t beat yourself up over the occasional setback. Remember that setbacks are mere detours, not the end of the road. Be kind to yourself, and remember that you are capable of growth and transformation.

Ultimately, let’s approach our resolutions with authenticity and grace. Embrace the journey, enjoy the process, and celebrate each milestone along the way. By doing that, you ensure you new year will be one filled with genuine progress and self-discovery. Cheers to you and the incredible adventure that lies ahead!
